As it’s name suggests, Alpine Buckwheat grows in sub-alpine and alpine areas. These areas are usually dry and sandy. There is a tuft of leaves at the base of the plant. Multiple flowers are at the end of stalks that usually grow close to the ground. The anthers are purple to dark brown to black and very noticeable. All the photos here were taken on the Bird Creek Meadows loop trail, August 12, 2026.
