There are still large fields of Blue Camas growing in the Northwest. Many of these large meadows have been replaced by urban growth or agriculture, I have been luck enough to find some great areas filled with these common camas. The bulbs were a vital food source for the Native tribes of our Northwest and they battled the settlers coming west over access to the fields. There are the common blue (or small) camas, the great camas and the mountain death camas. While the great and the common look very similar except for the size, the mountain death camas is white and the bulbs are quite poisonous.
