So many of the wildflowers that I encounter as I hike the trails hither and thither, seem very common to me now, after having hiked for almost 50 years here in the Portland area. Yet I realize that they may not be that familiar to you, and that is why I built this website. The blue flax is one of those fairly common flowers that grows in many different locations and types of terrain. I have found these from as far away as the Canyon Vista Trail in Zumwalt Prairie and as close to home as Upper Elowah Falls. The first time I hiked at Basket Slough National Wildlife Refuge the field as you begin to hike up Rich Guadagno Memorial Loop Trail, was pale blue in color due to the amount of blue flax.
