There are many different types of paintbrushes that thrive in the Pacific Northwest. The Harsh Paintbrush is probably the most prevalent. The flower petals are lobed with deep clefts to each. The leaves are also lobed into three sections. This wildflower will fill hillsides, as shown below on Silver Star Mountain in southwest Washington.
