There are a couple of different theories as to the name of this native wildflower. The Pacific Hound’s Tongue may be named so due to the size and slight hairiness of the larger leaves, feeling like, yup, a dog’s or hound’s tongue. The flower of the Pacific Hound’s Tongue is always a rich blue, with five heartshaped fornices or appendages in the center of the flower. This wild plant grows into large clumps of leaves and flowers throughout the Northwest.
