Actually, the Pacific Madrone is not a shrub or small tree, but can grow into a fairly tall, stately tree. Because of it’s white flowers, it belongs here on this website. Pacific Madrones have reddish colored bark that peels during mid to late summer, leaving strips of bark dangling from the branches and trunk. The flowers are urn-shaped and grow in clusters. Berries form in early fall, and grow from green to orange as they age.
