I I have been to Zumwalt Prairie in far Northeastern Oregon six different times and only discovered this wildflower this past year in mid May. It is kind of inconspicuous in that it blends in with the tall grasses and is a little hard to spot. But, like everything, once you know what you are looking for, it becomes easier. The stalk of Red Besseya gets up to a foot tall, but the leaves don’t grow that tall, maybe four inches off the ground.
