The wild rhododendron is fairy prolific in the dense forests of the lower slopes of the Cascades and the Coast Range. This is a shrubby plant that can grow up to 10 feet tall. Perhaps taller. The leaves are fairly thick, and are evergreen. The wild rhododendron is very similar to those that grow in our yards here in the Pacific Northwest. The flowers range from light pink to deep red and bloom in mid to late spring. I found some growing along the Hidden Lake Trail on the way to junction with the PCT. Also found them in bloom hiking to Cache Meadows. It is easy to spot, unlike some of the tiny wildflowers I have been on my hands and knees to photograph.
