The Tapertip Onion is the most widespread of all the onions found in the Pacific Northwest. The flowers are more pink to deeper pink than other onions. Each inflorescence is on a tall stem, with anywhere from eight to thirty flowers per stem. There is usually a darker pink vein in each petal. The Tapertip Onion is sometimes called Hooker’s Onion. It grows in open areas, like meadows and often in rocky soil. It is unique in that the flower stems can grow up to a foot in height; most other onions grow low to the ground.
