There are many asters and similar looking fleabanes in the Pacific Northwest. The Western Mountain Aster is commonly found in meadowy areas from mid elevations up. The leaves at the ground are longer than the stem leaves, which also are more pointed than the basal leaves. The disc flowers are yellow in the center of the flower head which has many rays almost always light purple or lavender.
