Growing on the east side of the Cascades, the Western Peony is a large wildflower, but grows under its dense foliage, so it is sometimes hard to see. Get down on your hands and knees to pick up the leaves and find the flower. Multiple yellow stamens are visible as the flower opens. All photos taken at Billy Meadows in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, May 17, 2021 and May 27, 2023.
